To keep its forever war intact, Israel is threatening Hezbollah to retreat from the southern part of its own country, Lebanon, or else.
The Israeli Foreign Ministry issued an ominous warning that a full-scale clash between West Jerusalem and Hezbollah will happen unless the militia withdraws in obedience to the Benjamin Netanyahu regime.
Israel issued the warning after accusing Hezbollah of unleashing a rocket attack on a soccer field in the Golan Heights over the weekend, killing at least 12 teenagers and children and wounding about 20 others.
Hezbollah said it played no part in the rocket attack, despite Israel’s claims.
Oren Marmorstein, spokesman for the Israeli Foreign Ministry, took to X to call the rocket attack a “massacre,” adding that the type of rocket used came from Iran and “Hezbollah is the only terror organization which has those in its arsenal.”
“The only way that the world can prevent a full-scale war which would be devastating also to Lebanon” is for Hezbollah to implement Security Council Resolution 1701, Marmorstein added.
(Related: German media giant Bild predicted this, warning that full-scale war between Israel and Lebanon would erupt in the latter half of July.)
Security Council Resolution 1701 was passed unanimously by the United Nations Security Council in 2006. Its purpose was to end all full-scale hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah, which operates out of Lebanon.
A major component of Security Council Resolution 1701 is the neutral buffer zone that it created between Israel and Lebanon. Israel reportedly withdrew from said neutral buffer zone, but Hezbollah did not fully comply.
“Now is the very last minute to do so diplomatically,” Marmorstein threatened about how Israel plans to respond unless Hezbollah withdraws from the buffer zone immediately.
As always, Israel is pointing all fingers at Iran as the culprit behind all this. Marmorstein called for the entire global community to sanction Iran, if they have not already, as well as declare both the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps and Hezbollah as terrorist organizations.
The Israeli military (IDF) claims to have already retaliated against Hezbollah for the rocket attack by carrying out its own airstrikes on targets “both deep inside Lebanese territory and in southern Lebanon.”
Herzi Halevi, the IDF’s (Israel Defense Forces) chief of staff, noted that his troops are already increasing their readiness for “the next stage in the fighting in the north,” adding that “when required we will act strongly.”
In his own statement, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani warned Israel “against any adventurism” in its quest to take down Hezbollah and ultimately Iran.
“Any stupid measure by the Zionist regime can lead to the expansion of the scope of instability, insecurity and the flames of war in the region,” Kanaani said.
The rest of the world, meanwhile, including UN officials, is calling on both sides of the fight to restrain themselves as the time of unrestraint has not yet arrived.
Lebanese Foreign Minister Abdallah Bou Habib says his government is asking the United States to persuade Israel to avoid any rash actions. Officials in Washington have reportedly asked Beirut to pressure Hezbollah into taking the same approach.
“They want Hezbollah to pull back so they can invade,” one commenter wrote about what he believes Israel is doing with this posturing.
“After years of ignoring these UN resolutions, Israel is now trying to hide behind one,” wrote another about Israel’s hypocrisy. “Israel is making threats it can’t fulfill. I don’t want to see war, but Tel Aviv seems bound and determined to force the issue.”
